Buster the Wonder Dog

I miss Buster.
I never thought that I would like having a Daschund, let alone a miniature, long haired Daschund. I was very wrong. Sarah called from work many years ago and asked if I wanted to have a dog. I told her that if no one else would give the dog a good home, then we could. Never give someone a choice when they already know what they want. It turns out that no one else would give the dog a home and he came to live with us.
He was a very cute dog but he was also one of the most expensive "free" dogs ever. He was sick and had fleas when we got him. That explained his seemingly perfect demeanor. Once Buster was healthy his personality really showed. He was very active and rambunctious.
Buster never had any problems playing with any other animals, from cats to very large dogs. He would not chase the ball on his own but if a bigger dog was chasing the ball Buster would run with them winding in and out of their legs barking. He made friends with everyone, people and other animals, that he came in contact with.
Buster had a great life and was very spoiled. It was very sad when he became so sick that he was not himself anymore. While I know that we made the right decision to put him to sleep, it was still one of the hardest things that I have ever had to do. I will never forget his sad eyes as he finally had peace and no more pain.
