My Life as a Teacher
I have been teaching since 2000. I spent my first year as a 5th grade teacher and have been a Physical Education teacher since then.
I occasionally feel sorry for my first group of 5th grade kids. Though I did go to a great teaching school to earn my Masters Degree, I was not a great teacher that first year. I have seen a few of those kids out in the "real world" and they seem to be doing fine so I am not too worried. I learned a lot about the importance of classroom management that year. I haven't yet perfected that skill but I am many times better now than I was then.
I was in a meeting with my principal and one of the directors of elementary education on Wednesday, Feb 24. The elementary education director informed me that he thinks that I should be teaching in an Emotional Growth Center (EGC). Apparently I have an aptitude for behavior issues. I am able to quickly understand ideas that are apparently difficult for the average person. My school is creating a behavior plan and I am the leader of our committee. We are doing an impressive job of creating the new plan. The director is very impressed. He is surprised with our progress so far and gives me much of the credit. I am not planning on jumping from my very good and fun job of teaching games to kids to teaching kids with many emotional problems, but you never know.
